No figure without a source
Every number on CritterCost traces back to a public source with a name and a date, or to a formula built from those sources. If we can't source it, we don't publish it. There are no 'experts say' figures and no numbers pulled from thin air.
Ranges, not false points
Costs vary, so we publish ranges, not single figures dressed up as exact. Any number that depends on an assumption is shown as a low-to-high band. Where our data is thin, we widen the band and say so rather than fake precision.
The computation wins
Our numbers are derived from sources by formula, not asserted from memory or opinion. If our prose ever disagrees with the computed figure, the computed figure is right and the prose gets fixed. Derived numbers beat asserted numbers, every time.
How we revise
When a source publishes new figures, we update the input, rebuild the site from it, and restamp the affected pages with the new date. Freshness is part of accuracy, so the annual source cycles set out on our methodology page drive scheduled rebuilds.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we want to know. Anyone can flag a figure at support@inventum.com.au. We check it, fix confirmed errors, rebuild, and log the correction with its date. The correction record is public in our methodology changelog.
No pay-for-placement
No one can pay to change a number on this site, to appear in a ranking, or to be framed favourably. We run standard display advertising, and it is walled off completely from the data: no sponsored figures, no affiliate placement inside our cost tables, and no advertiser influence over any estimate. The ads pay for the site; they don't touch the numbers.
